Electricity Generation: Solar Power

In 2012 small rooftop schemes were introduced.  Introduction of new technology is rarely easy on St Helena so these allowed the technology to be evaluated, accurate data to be gathered to support future investment proposals and on island contractors to become familiar with the systems.

There are currently 5 solar PV Systems on island with a capacity of 0.6MW.  These small installations generate approximately 8% of the islands electricity.

The purpose built scheme at the rifle range in Half Tree Hollow was commissioned in 2015 and has significantly  increased the quantity of solar generation in the energy mix.

The electricity generation data for all our solar sites is publicly accessible on line.  To find out how to access this information, please go to our download library and click on the article Sunnyportal - Solar Energy.
